Dear Homeschoolers,
I am very excited to announce that we will be having a Science Fair for homeschoolers in San Antonio!
The exact date and location have not yet been finalized but it is tentatively scheduled for April 2012.
This is a wonderful opportunity for homeschool students to learn about the scientific method through a demonstration or experiment of their own choosing and interest. The challenge of completing a project for exhibition and the element of competition can be a rewarding adventure.
I know that it seems like a long time from now but I did want to give everyone a heads up as science fair projects take advance notice to prepare. I hope to send out a document describing the project categories soon. A list of guidelines and rules is attached Kids grades Pre-K thru 12 will be allowed to participate. Rules will vary by grade level and category.
I believe this will be a lot of fun. My husband’s non-profit “SREIT” will be helping to handle this event offering certificates for all participants, ribbons, and perhaps cash prizes! The more that participate the better this event will be. The fee to participate is $5 per child.
Please let me know if your child will be interested in participating. Please include their name, age, and grade level. You do not have to know what project you will be doing yet. This is only for headcount purposes. Sign ups will close February 29.
Feel free to contact me with questions and/or to register.
More info to come.
Cordially,
Crystal Sperber

Japanese Tutor

DOUG STRINGER, JAPANESE TUTOR

Hello and thanks for this opportunity to tell you a bit about myself. I first arrived in Japan in 1978 and I have been studying the Japanese language ever since. The ability to speak, read and write Japanese has grown to be single most important factor of my 30-year career as I have worked for several Japanese companies as well as American companies wishing to do business with Japanese companies. I lived in Japan for a total of 8 years. I was last in Japan on 7Jan2011 for a vacation with my wife who is Japanese.

I have taught Japanese classes for the Japan-America Society of Houston and for the Continuing Education Program at the University of Houston where I graduated with a business degree. In addition, I have taught Japanese to my peers at several of the companies where I have worked. Living and working overseas has given me an appreciation for my own language. I have also taught and tutored in English both in Japan and the US. While a college student at the University of Houston, I taught English conversation and reading comprehension to students from all over the globe.

Many children and young adults are now interested in Japanese manga (comics) and anime (cartoons). I can assist students wishing to explore those types of entertainment, but only if approved by parents first. Unfortunately, some of the Japanese manga and anime is quite lurid and/or violent in nature and shouldn’t be viewed by children so that sort of material will not be allowed in my classes.

Tutoring for one student or a whole class is possible, with discounts for multiple students. We can work out the rates based on the frequency and length of the class.

Finally, I want to mention that being a tutor is a wonderful opportunity to help a child develop new talents or skills. However, I believe tutoring is also a way to support the noble goals of parents to raise a child who is well-educated and prepared for life as an adult. Therefore, parents should always feel free to mention their concerns to me and are, of course, welcome to join the classes at no extra charge.

I am looking into getting a group of homeschoolers to teach. Sign Up Today!

Ms. Hong has renewed our 11 year old daughter's interest in piano.  She had completely stopped  practicing and no longer enjoyed her lessons. Ms. Hong's genuine love for music and teaching was an immediate inspiration.  Our daughter now, not only, loves her lessons but, enjoys practicing and is making  great progress. Our 7 year old son also takes lessons from Ms. Hong. She has given him a sense of pride and he plays with a smile on his face. She has made it fun for him and he even likes to play for family and visitors. Ms. Hong is energetic and enthusiastic.  We are so blessed to have found her.

About Our Program:
Kinderdance is more than just a dance program. Our developmentally designed
programs build self-confidence and self-esteem in young children. We blend early

childhood academic readiness skills into our curriculum. Age-appropriate
activities are an integral part of our weekly lesson plans. Kinderdance teaches
to the total child, thereby enhancing the emotional, social, cognitive,
physical, and creative development of each child.  Instructors issue periodic
progress reports directly to the parents to inform them of their child’s
progress throughout the year.  We offer a private, low stress, year-end
demonstration where the children have the opportunity to demonstrate the skills
they have mastered. All programs are taught by certified Kinderdance instructors

who specialize in teaching developmentally appropriate movement activities to
young children.
